Christmas Break
By on January 4, 2008
The ministry has been closed for a few weeks for Christmas break. In South Africa, so many things shut down in December that it makes it very hard to get anything done. In the early years, we tried to fight this. We stayed open and grew very frustrated that we couldn’t do anything since nothing else was open. We finally gave in and figured, If you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. We now close for 4 weeks each December, allowing all our staff a much-needed end-of-the-year break. Our indigenous staff spend time with their families. Many of our missionary staff head home to do the same. This year, Niel and I stayed in South Africa over the break, along with Charlene and Dave (two missionary staff). It’s been relaxing and quiet. We’ve all still been working (how can we not?!), but nowhere near as much as usual. It’s been a good break.
The rest of the staff start returning from the States today. We officially kick off the new ministry year on Monday. We are looking forward to the year ahead!
