Not Just Your Ordinary 15k
By on October 30, 2008

A few weeks ago, while half of the interns were on safari with their families, the other half of us were at a 15k mountain race. Initially, Matt Peirce was going to be the only intern to run it, but because of one well-placed and convincing shop owner, Katie Tjarks, Crystal, and Shannon decided to join him.
The race was intense. It’s the oldest in South Africa, and people from all over the contry come to compete in it. Essentially, it’s about 7k to the mountain base, and then you run up the mountain, back down, and 7k more back to the finish line. Matt was aiming for the hour and a half mark, which he just barely missed by 7 minutes, while the others were simply aiming to finish. Crystal and Katie didn’t run the entire race, but they did everything but climb the mountain! Shannon finished with an impressive time as well, not too long after Matt came in.
It was a great way to spend our Saturday, and I didn’t even mind that I was the only intern not running. I spent the afternoon with the staff, cheering for the interns and the random South Africans that were passing by.
