Last Intern Class
By on November 14, 2008
I just finished teaching my last intern class of the year. And, I kid you not, it was the best class ever.
The interns have been studying world religions. They’ve worked in pairs, diligently researching and putting together creative ways to share what they’ve learned with the rest of the interns. This week we’ve gotten together three times so that each pair could present “their” religions to the rest of the group. They had to convey the beliefs of the religion, how it differs from Christianity, and effective strategies for evangelism.
Everyone learned a lot through the whole process, but I had no idea how impactful it could be in their lives. After the last group shared tonight, I asked the interns if they’d enjoyed this exercise of learning about other religions. There was a resounding “yes”. And then there was utter honesty and openness from an intern who shared how this all strengthened and reinforced his faith in Christ and banished any doubts that had lingered in his heart.
We concluded the evening, and an entire year of in-depth learning about missions, with prayer. We joined hands and, with tear-stained cheeks, poured our hearts out to God. I loved hearing the interns pray, thanking the Lord for all they’ve learned and praising Him for who He is. I was deeply touched when so many of them specifically expressed how much Niel and I have meant to them this year.
Staring at the computer screen, I can’t help but think of what a futile attempt this is at putting words to what transpired tonight. That’s ok. My heart knows. And will always remember.
Say Something...

Some of the glory…followed by some grit, maybe?

I think that is the wonder of the cross. It is so absurd that no one would have made it up and so perfect that no one could have made it up. (I think I’m paraphrasing C.S.Lewis.)
