“Expect great things from God. Attempt great things for God.” As you give of yourself to serve in Africa this summer, the rewards will far outweigh the sacrifices. You might miss a day at the beach, lose out on a sale at the mall, or use up your vacation days for the year, but you’ll make new friends, experience another culture, and change people’s lives for eternity. It doesn’t get much better than that!

Build lasting friendships

Mission trips are breeding grounds for solid friendships. You’ll be teamed up with other like-hearted people from across America. As God stretches each of you out of your comfort zone, you’ll learn to rely on each other in ways you didn’t think possible. By the time you leave, you’ll have made some friends who will stick with you through thick and thin.

It’s all about ministry

Your days will be filled with ministry opportunities, in a variety of forms. You will:

• Minister to people in their homes through relationship evangelism
• Teach children in an after-school kids club program
• Visit and pray with hospital patients
  
• Learn to put words to what you believe as you share your faith with others
• Enjoy worship and teaching sessions with your team
• Spend time with Thrive Africa’s team of staff and interns

Teaming up

You and your teammates will meet up at an international airport where you’ll meet each other and your team leaders. From there you’ll start training and travel together on a direct flight to South Africa. Once you get here, you’ll finish training and jump right into ministry.

What about sleeping and eating?

You will be staying on our 2,500-acre base in cabins with other Thrive Trippers. Each cabin has its own bathroom–complete with running (hot!) water and electricity.

You’ll get 3 square meals a day in our eating hall, where you’ll eat buffet-style.

There are also places for you to hang out, play cards, watch a movie, and use the internet.

Safari time

You should definitely bring your camera… The wildlife you’ll be able to see not only on the base, but also on safari, will make your jaw drop. You’ll spend a night on safari with your team — a chance to see elephants, giraffe, zebra, rhino, lion, and more. God’s creativity will astound you as your eyes are exposed to the beauty of African wildlife.
